How to Seal a Cork Floor

When it comes to sealing a cork floor, there are a few things to consider before choosing a product, such as durability, water resistance, fumes and effects on the aesthetic of the cork.

We recommend using a water-based sealant on a cork floor. Water-based sealants are highly durable and water resistant, are low-odour, and will minimise yellowing over time to preserve the look of the cork. They are also much safer for the environment than oil-based sealants.

Sealing Cork Floors with GK Invisible Wood Sealer

GK Invisible Wood Sealer is a water-based sealing solution that is often used on decking, fencing, timber and other wood structures, but it is also completely safe and suitable for use on cork floors.

This sealer is ready-to-use without dilution. It penetrates deep into the wood or cork, creating a robust defence against moisture and spills, keeping your floor pristine for years to come.

Formulated using the latest technology to give outstanding performance and durability, GK Invisible Wood Sealer will protect your cork floor from everyday wear and tear, whilst preventing yellowing or staining.

Key Features

Breathable Solution: The special formula allows water vapour to pass through, while preventing water from penetrating the cork.

Superior Protection: The sealer creates a barrier which helps prevent delamination, warping or buckling.

Hardwearing: The invisible sealant layer is both UVA resistant and highly resistant to wear and tear.

Low Odour: The sealant benefits from low odour and fumes, making the application process more pleasant.

How to Apply GK Invisible Wood Sealer to Cork Floors

Using a brush, long pile roller or low-pressure spray, apply the sealer to saturation in an even coat.

Apply a second wet-on-wet coat before the first coat dries for deeper penetration.

Avoid runs, drips or puddling by removing excess product with a clean, lint-free cloth.

Touch dry within 2 hours, and fully dry within 24 hours. For decking and flooring you should allow 24 hours before heavy foot traffic.

Summary

Though cork is naturally resistant to water due to the suberin that is found in cork cells, there are still many benefits for using a sealer. The sealer will protect cork floors against spills and moisture, and create a barrier that will prevent any water from penetrating the cork, massively reducing the risk of staining, warping or buckling.

GK Invisible Wood Sealer is a water-based sealer, known for its durability and resistance to wear. The specialist sealing solution provides a clear finish that enhances the natural aesthetic of the cork without yellowing over time.
