Professional Algae and Biological Stain Removal for Rendered Walls
Rendered walls are one of the most common exterior surfaces in the UK, and one of the most susceptible to biological staining. The textured, porous nature of render, whether that's sand and cement, monocouche, or K render, provides the ideal conditions for algae, mould, lichen, and bacteria to establish and spread.

What is the best render cleaner for algae?
GK Render Cleaner is our dedicated algae cleaner for rendered walls and is the best render cleaner in our range for biological staining. It removes algae, mould, lichen, and bacteria from all render types without bleach, acid, or solvent, making it safe on both plain and pigmented render finishes including K render.
Is it safe to use a render algae cleaner on K render?
Yes. Because GK Render Cleaner contains no bleach, acids, or solvents, it is safe on K render and other through-coloured monocouche systems that are sensitive to oxidising or acidic cleaners. The formula will not strip pigment or alter the render finish when used as directed.
How long does render cleaner take to work?
Results depend on the biological loading on the surface. In most cases, treatment will begin visibly working within days, with full results apparent over two to four weeks as biological matter dies back and weathers from the surface. For heavy soiling, a second application may accelerate the process.
Can render cleaner be applied in any weather?
GK Render Cleaner can be applied year-round, though results may be affected if rain falls within 24 hours of application or if temperatures are below 8°C. Dry, mild conditions give the best results.
Is GK Render Cleaner safe around plants and gardens?
Yes, provided it is not sprayed directly onto plants. If overspray occurs, rinse affected foliage thoroughly with clean water. The product may temporarily scorch foliage but should not kill established plants, and lawns recover quickly. For protection, cover planted borders with waterproof sheeting prior to application.
Can I paint over render after treatment?
Yes. Once the surface is clean and fully dry, it can be painted or stained. For heavily contaminated surfaces, it's worth allowing two to three weeks for dead biological matter to begin decomposing before washing down and applying a finish, which produces a cleaner, better-bonding result.
